'We need to give them this feeling in game 3!' Lakers coach Darvin Ham vows to avenge devastating loss against Nuggets
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Nuggets managed to edge out yet again versus the Lakers, as they took Game 2, 101-99. Darvin Ham and the Lakers were off to a strong start, leading by 15 at halftime. The dominant first half was led by Anthony Davis ‘ 24 points and D’Angelo Russell‘s six triples. However, just as the game was in the favor of the Lakers, the Nuggets took over in the second half.

Denver outscored the Lakers, 57-40 in the second half. The game came down to the last possession, where LeBron James missed the opportunity to go up by three, as Jamal Murray sank the game-winning fadeaway over AD. It was a pretty unfortunate ending for the Lakers with head coach, Darvin Ham looking to avenge the Game 2 loss at home.

It stings. Remember this feeling as we go back to LA. We need to give them this feeling in Game 3. said Darvin Ham, via Jovan Buha on Twitter

There were multiple aspects where the Lakers dominated the Nuggets. AD was unstoppable near the paint, shooting 73% from the field. D-Lo made his comeback, going 7 of 11 from deep. King James stepped up in the second half, making clutch shots in the fourth. All these sequences showed how better the Lakers have been compared to last year. While the men in purple and gold deserved to take Game 2, it wasn’t just the Nuggets that pulled their hopes down.

Darvin Ham shed some light on the officials

During the end of the third quarter, a foul on Michael Porter Jr. was overturned after the Nuggets challenged the call. As seen in the replay, it was a clear foul, as MPJ hit D-Lo in the face. Ham did consider it during the game, however, the coach did not want the same to come out as an excuse going forward.

Some tough calls. Some tough non-calls. But you can't use any of that as an excuse. You gotta go out there and be ready to make plays whether the whistle gets blown or not. It's getting real tricky... said Darvin Ham, via Michael Corvo on Twitter.

The Lakers have done a great job giving the Nuggets a tough time in the first round. While the Nuggets are up 2-0, the only deeper aspect of the series to look into is the Lakers’ performance on the road. The Nuggets barely edged out of Game 2 at home.

With the series going to Hollywood for the next two games, the Lakers will be coming back with full force to hopefully tie the series before Game 5. LeBron James and company cannot afford to lose a game at home if they want a chance to make it to the second round. Game 3 is scheduled on the 25th of April, as the Lakers look to end the 10-game losing streak.
